The LIFE WILDisland project and its progress was presented on the 27thAustrian LIFE Platform meeting. The meeting took place on the 6th and 7th of May in Braunau am Inn and provided interesting presentations about ongoing LIFE projects in Austria, the future of the LIFE Programme itself, and updates on the project monitoring. Furthermore, (bilateral) talks were incredibly valuable to exchange ideas, discuss common problems, issues, and solutions, as well as meet some of the external monitors and representatives from CINEA. All the Austrian WILDisland project partners, Donau-Auen National Park, viadonau, and Verbund, gathered at the meeting, which was an excellent opportunity for internal talks and coordination.
Moreover an excursion took place to the newly finished fish passage of the Braunau-Simbach hydropower plant. In addition to the dynamically fed bypass channel, measures have been implemented on the dike to encourage the development of high-quality grassland habitats.
The event was hosted by the LIFE Riverscape Lower Inn project. We are grateful for the kind hospitality and looking forward to the next opportunity for exchange!
