On November 25th 2021 the European Climate Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency at EC welcomed the newly approved beneficiaries of the LIFE Nature and Governance & Information funding schemes. Due to the contemporary covid-restrictions, the event was held online.
The Commission has approved an investment package of more than €290 million for 132 new projects under the LIFE programme for the environment and climate action in 2020. This EU funding will mobilise a total investment of €562 million, with projects in almost all Member States.
The LIFE WILDisland project is among the total of 39 projects, funded through the LIFE nature & biodiversity scheme, supporting the implementation of the EU Birds and Habitats Directives as well as the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. These projects will have a total budget of €249 million, of which the EU will pay €134 million.
At the meeting, Mr. Frank Vassen (DG Environment) presented the latest policy development, while the team of CINEA and NEEMO introduced all project managers and the external monitoring team.
The 57 supported NATURE and GIE projects were divided and presented in a total of 8 working groups, to allow for experience and methodology exchange, networking and better coordination. The LIFE WILDisland project was presented in Working Group 3: IAS & Forests and plant conservation, together with other projects from Belgium, Spain, Italy and UK.
We are very grateful for the opportunity for networking and getting to know more colleagues and organization working for the conservation of the European natural heritage and biodiversity.
