On September 23d the teams of Donau-Auen National Park, viadonau and the technical planning company RIOCOM met to discuss the final aspects of the revitalization works planned with the LIFE WILDisland project on the Schwalbeninsel island complex, Austria.
Following the on-site sampling work, RIOCOM has gained valuable insight into the physical structure of the embankment and groynes, enabling a more accurate assessment of the quantity of riprap that needs to be removed. These calculations are essential for the preparation of a bill of quantities for the tendering process to assign a construction company responsible for the revitalisation works. Furthermore, they assist in the formulation of preliminary cost estimates and the assessment of the feasibility of the actions outlined in the ambitious technical plan for the revitalisation of the Scwalbeninsel, taking into account the limited funding available within the LIFE WILDisland project. This enables the team to prioritise certain measures that are expected to achieve maximum efficiency and ecosystem value within the constraints of the budget.
The three teams discussed various aspects of the forthcoming construction work and tendering process, including access to the revitalisation site, the proposed timeline, the permits already obtained and the conditions set out by the relevant authorities. The tasks are progressing well and we are preparing for the nearby onset of the revitalisation actions on site.
