WILDisland as EU Mission Waters action

LIFE project

The LIFE WILDisland project has been recognized as a “Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters” action!

This is an acknowledgment that our project plays a central role in delivering against and contributing to one or more of the following Mission Ocean and Waters objectives:

  1.  Protect and restore marine and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity, in line with the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030

  2.  Prevent and eliminate pollution of our ocean, seas and waters, in line with the EU Action Plan Towards Zero Pollution for Air, Water and Soil

  3.  Make the sustainable blue economy carbon-neutral and circular, in line with the proposed European Climate Law and the holistic vision enshrined in the Sustainable Blue Economy Strategy

EU Missions are a new way to bring concrete solutions to some of our greatest challenges. They have ambitious goals and will deliver concrete results by 2030. There are a total of five missions, devoted to Climate Change, Cancer presvention and cure, Ocean and Waters, Climate-neutral and smart cities and Soil.

They put research and innovation into a new role, combined with new forms of governance and collaboration, as well as by engaging citizens.  They represent a coordinated effort by the Commission to pool the necessary resources in terms of policies and regulations, as well as other activities. They also aim to mobilise and activate public and private actors, such as EU Member States, regional and local authorities, research institutes, farmers and land managers, entrepreneurs and investors to create real and lasting impact. Missions engage with citizens to boost societal uptake of new solutions and approaches.

The purpose of the “Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters” is to rally all stakeholders, fostering cooperation, aligning efforts, and amassing the necessary momentum for the transformative change needed to restore our oceans and waters by 2030. It aims to protect and restore the health of our ocean and waters through research and innovation, citizen engagement and blue investments. The Mission’s new approach will address the ocean and waters as one and play a key role in achieving climate neutrality and restoring nature.

By adhering to the Mission Charter, our team sends a clear signal on the importance to protect our inland waters and provides a credible example to take concrete actions. We can now get involved in major Mission fora and events, multiplying the opportunities for networking, exchanges of experiences, collaboration and increasing visibility.

We are really grateful for the recognition!
