Data protection

General Information

We attach great importance to the protection of your personal data and respect for your privacy. Below, we inform you about the collection and processing of personal data when using the WILDisland website.

The website is operated by Nationalpark Donau-Auen GmbH, Schlossplatz 1, 2304 Orth an der Donau, Austria.

Collection and Processing of Data When Visiting Our Website

When you visit our website, certain technical information, including your IP address, browser information and the date and time of access, is automatically processed to ensure the secure and reliable operation of the website.

Our website is hosted on a server located in Germany. Technical access and error logs are retained for a limited period for security, maintenance and troubleshooting purposes.

This processing is based on our legitimate interest in ensuring the functionality and security of the website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Use of Email Addresses for Newsletters

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we use the personal information you provide exclusively for sending you news about the WILDisland project and related activities, provided that you have expressly consented.

Newsletter subscriptions are managed through Mailchimp (Intuit), a service provider based in the United States. Your registration data is transferred to Mailchimp only when you submit the subscription form.

You may unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link included in each newsletter or by contacting us directly.

Further information about Mailchimp's data protection practices is available at https://www.intuit.com/privacy/.

Website Statistics

We use a locally hosted statistics tool (WP Statistics) to analyse website usage and improve our online services.

The system does not use cookies or transmit visitor statistics to external providers. IP addresses are shortened and processed into pseudonymous identifiers that cannot be linked across different days. The statistics are stored on our own server for 365 days.

This processing is based on our legitimate interest in improving our website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Use of Cookies

Our website uses cookies to remember your privacy preferences and, with your consent, to enable certain external services.

Before you make a selection in the consent banner, no cookies are set and no connections to external third-party servers are established.

After you accept or decline the banner, necessary cookies are stored for up to 365 days to remember your decision.

Certain external services, particularly the interactive WILDisland map and embedded videos, are activated only with your consent through the category “Maps and videos”.

When YouTube videos are activated, YouTube may set additional cookies lasting for the browser session or up to 180 days.

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time through the website's privacy settings.

Interactive Map and Embedded Videos

Our website includes an interactive map using OpenStreetMap and videos hosted by YouTube and Facebook.

These services are only activated after you have given your consent. Once activated, your browser establishes a connection to the respective external provider, which may receive technical information, including your IP address. Data may also be transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area, including the United States.

Photographs and videos published on the WILDisland website originate from the project partners and their respective media archives or have been provided for use within the project. Their publication is based on the relevant permissions, licences or other applicable legal grounds.
