General Information
Located on the border section of the Danube, this island act as stepping stone between the Donau-Auen National Park in Austria and the Danube Floodplains in Slovakia.
The Wolfsthaler Insel is covered by very natural willow stands, never touched by forestry or any other management.
It is located in a groyne field. In the frame of DANUBEparksCONNECTED, the side branch behind the island will be restored in winter 2018/2019 by removing groynes. This should contribute to improve water discharge and sediment transport and to preserve the character of this island on a long term.
