General Information
One of the most beautiful islands in the Upper Danube! Together with the large gravel banks and with the smaller islands upstream (in the groyne field), the Schwalbeninsel represents an important site for characteristic animals and plants of a dynamic river. Natural riparian vegetation, showing a very nice gradient from gravel banks to willow bushes and to natural and pristine softwood stands.
Due to its outstanding habitat quality visitors are not allowed to go on the island and gravel banks.
On the lower part of the islands there is a small rest of embankments which should be removed to ensure the characterization as WILDisland character A.
