General Information
In the Danube crossing railway bridge there are 2 island areas in the river bed which can be reached at low tide. A pasture-dominated softwood floodplain forest has developed on the islands. Due to severe storm damage, however, the tree population is decimated and thinned out. The herb layer is dominated by reed and nettle.
The main island lies directly under the railway bridge. As a result of the bridge demolition and new construction measures, the alluvial forest in the central part has been cleared.
The banks are covered with stone, depending on the water level, sand-gravel banks are located upstream. Characteristic is a high proportion of deadwood.
