General Information
Natural river section of the Danube with water vegetation between Sigmaringen and Sigmaringendorf, which is home to the accompanying Silberweiden floodplain forest and reed beds. The Danube, flowing from west to east, forms a meandering loop extending northwards, in which renaturation measures were carried out about 10 years ago. By the connection of a former old arm a large island as well as several small islands developed. The river stones were removed from the banks of the Danube and placed in the river as obstacles. A flood channel gives the Danube further development potential. In three places on the island, the turf was removed in order to facilitate the emergence of woody plants. The aim was to develop a floodplain forest. At present, the large island is densely covered with nettles. In areas of the old arm with weak currents, diving and floating leaf vegetation with rough hornwort can survive.
