Danube Day in Kopacki rit, Croatia

News

Kopački rit Nature Park, one of the LIFE WILDisland project partners, celebrated the International Danube Day on Saturday, July 2, 2022 with a program called "The Heart of the Danube".

The park directorate presented its projects, aimed at protecting the Danube River as the European Amazon and visitors were able to participate in numerous activities and workshops. The LIFE WILDisland project was among the highlights of the programme. As the same time, the event was an excellent opportunity to buy local products at the ethnic fair or to taste the specialties of the local cuisine.

In addition to that, the most prominent entries of the "Heart of the Danube" photo-contest were presented for voting. The competition was organized by the Public Institution of the Kopački rit Nature Park, in cooperation with the Public Institution for Nature Protection of the Osijek-Baranja County and DANUBEPARKS. The aim was to show the beauty of the Danube River and its tributaries as well as the Kopački rit Nature Park, and thus raise awareness of the need for better protection and ensuring a sustainable development of the European Amazon.

A total of 118 votes determined the winners: Ankice Molnar (1st prize); Damiru Rajleu (2nd prize) and Andrijani Lozanović  (3d prize). Congratulations for the awarded photographers, as well as everyone else who took part in this photo-challenge!

To mark the Danube Day, all visitors were offered a promo price for a boat trip or a visit to the newly opened Presentation and Education Center Tikveš.
