WILDislands presented to CEU students

LIFE project

On Friday 18th the WILDisland project was presented within the "Introduction to Geo Spatial Data Visualization" course of the Environmental Systems Laboratory of the Central European University in Vienna, Austria for a third year.

The aim of the presentation was to demonstrate to the new batch of students from various departments how can even simple geospatial data processing be used for direct conservation of species and habitsts on field and how can maps and visual presentation of ideas assist decision making and environmental planning in practise. We discussed the hydrological changes of the Danube in the area of the Donau-Auen National Park near Vienna and the conservation taks solved with the help of proper mapping.

The LIFE WILDisland project is happy to continue its ongoing cooperation with the Environmental Systems Laboratory and CEU. Last year the project hosted an intern, whose task was to map and visualize the WILDislands along the Rhine, using the same criteria developed for the Danube.

We thank the Environmental Systems Laboratory of CEU for the invitation and since the Master students showed real interest, we hope that they will take over practical conservation and geospatial analysis in their future work!

Furthermore, we will continue to host CEU students to help us further develop and promote the WILDisland concept, so stay tuned!
