General Information
This island is located and developing in the old course of the Sfantu Gheorghe arm. It is permanently surrounded by water at any level and it is made up by two parts at high water level. The predominant vegetation consists of willows with poplars and Amorpha fruticosa shrubs. On the edges of the island reed forms a discontinuous pattern. The vegetation forms a meadow forest ecosystem, well defined and represented by
layering vegetation.
On this island there were identified bird, mammal and amphibian species protected by OUG 57/2007:
- Eurasian golden oriole (Oriolus oriolus)
- Otter (Lutra lutra)
- European tree frog (Hyla arborea)
Conservation status: Biosphere Reservation
