General Information
This spectacular old island formed upstream of Isaccea city represents an old establishment from antiquity named “Noviodunum”. It’s developing in the main channel of the river through natural processes. The vegetation present on the island is remarkable due to the mixture of willows with poplars and ashes, covered partially in some areas with wild vines. It is owned by the reserve administration and will be designated a WILDIsland once the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Administration will sign the nonintervention management agreement. Due to its position (the westernmost point in the Delta), the island will represent the first pillar of the WILDIslands network across the delta.
